PostSubject: BSNL’s Roadmap for 2007   Thu 27 Mar - 15:35

BSNL is spending nearly Rs 2,000 crores to setup broadband infrastructure which would enhance internet speeds upto 2 megabits per second and to setup 1000 WiMAX towers to bring nearly 20,000 - 30,000 villages where copper lines are not reachable under broadband connectivity by the mid 2007.

A K Sinha, CMD of BSNL spoke on their plans: “We will invest Rs 1200-1500 crores for expanding our broadband network in urban areas while about Rs 500 crores would be invested in rural areas.”

BSNL would still continue to provide cheap broadband starting at Rs 250 per month ($5.6). Currently BSNL’s broadband userbase is almost 1 million strong. With greater speeds and cheaper rates they hope to expand it by another 5 million broadband users by the end of 2007.

If everything goes as planned by BSNL, year 2007 will be marked in broadband history books for Indian consumers.
